Hi

Can you tell me what jets riders are putting in their 2001 280 please. Are people changing them? Also are there different pipes out there for the same bikes. As with motocrossers, there lots of different pipes.I want to know if there are any for the trials bikes.

Thanks

Andrew

Andrew,

I can't tell you what specific jets or carb settings would work best in your bike. There are a bunch of variables like: altitude, humidity, ambient temperature, type and brand of fuel used, type of riding area, your skill level etc. The easiest thing to do is contact your local Gas-Gas dealer and they should be able to reccommend the jets and settings that work well for your area. Most bikes, motocross especially, come from the factory with slightly rich jetting in order to compensate for the wide range of conditions in the areas they ship to all over the world. This way there is less chance of an overly lean condition and engine damage if the rider doesn't know what jets he/she needs for their specific area. Your Gas-Gas dealer can also supply you with the correct Dellorto jets for your bike.

As to aftermarket pipes, there are none availiable that I know of for any brand of Trials bike, mostly because there would be little, if any, benefit over the stock tuned exhaust systems. The "headpipe" or the length of pipe exiting the cylinder is specificially configured to provide a wide range of power and torque for that engine type and is probably the most critical part. The volume and design of the first and second exhaust boxes or mufflers compliment the headpipe tuning and also must be configured to fit in the extremely close quarters required by Trials motorcycle design. Sometimes a rider may change the rear muffler to modify the power characteristics of the engine but this is rare and it is most often to add a spark arrestor required by the authorities in their riding area. One of the nice things about Trials bikes is that they require few, if any, modifications to make them fully competitive for just about any class and the modifications are usually a matter of rider's personal preferences like handlebars and grips.
