Jon,

I am looking at a 94 GG 250, but it needs a new or used(undamaged) crank and woodruff key. It will also need all gaskets and seals that fall into the repair area. My question is can you give me an idea where I might get this stuff and is there anything I should be aware of when considering doing this work?

Regards

John

John,

Used cranks are a real crapshoot as it's very difficult to ascertain their condition internally and a bad crank can cause a lot of damage if they go out. I'd go for a new crank. Jim Snell at Rising Sun Imports carries new crankshafts as well as all the parts needed and he's the top guy as to how to install them in the Gas-Gas. Your local Gas-Gas dealer can also get you the necessary parts. Setting up and installing cranks is a fairly technical process that requires good experience and I'd go with the dealer as they know exactly what to do and how to do it. A good dealership will also inspect the engine for any other problems that need to be corrected so you will end up with an engine that will give you years of good service.
