I have a 1991 gas gas air cooled 250. It doesnt seem to have a spark and I think the coil is at fault. I have approx 2 volts out of the cdi feed to the coil and 12volts from the kill switch when kicking over. Is this correct? The input of the coil seems to be shorting to the iron core of the coil. Is it supposed to? It still has 18k ohms through to the plug lead end. Will this mean that the input will be shorting when the coil is attached to the frame? Do i need a new coil? Thank for your time. Please let me know if you need any more info. Iain. Iain, I posed your question to Jim Snell, owner of Rising Sun Imports and an expert on the Gas-Gas Motoplat ignition systems. He believes, according to the symptoms you describe, that the trouble may lie in the banana shaped output coil on the stator assembly. That coil should read 35 Ohms when tested. You could try tightening up the spark plug gap to see if that will help, but there is a good possibility that the coil may need replacement. Your local Gas-Gas dealer can test the system for you and get the parts if needed. Jon
