I have a 93 gas gas 250. How do you flush the anti-freeze system. Can you flush it by removing the radiator lines to the water pump and run some water though the lines, jug and radiator to clean it out? I don't think mine has ever been flushed. Is it a good idea to flush it like a car system once a year.

I like to take a little time each year when the weather is bad enough we can't ride (actually, in Oklahoma, we can ride most all year) and service the whole cooling system as it's relatively simple and it gives me a chance to check out everything, including the wiring above the radiator. After flushing the system with clear water, I take the hoses and radiator off and wash them out to make sure there is no grunge, and inspect the hoses closely for cracks or tears. I take the pump impellor cover off to check for corrosion. When I put the hoses on, I spray a little Silicone inside so they come off easy the next time and make sure I don't overtighten them. This is a good time to inspect the hose clamps too, and replace any that are suspect.

I know this is overkill and most riders would never think of doing this, but I have never had a cooling system breakdown or overheating problem. Because of my Professional Racing background, I am a firm believer in preventive maintenance, and would rather fix something before it breaks rather than afterwards as the breakage usually happens under the worst possible conditions.
