Dear Jon:

I, Steve Kim, am living in Korea. At the moment, I've got a TXT 280. I have won in the last two Korean trials championships. I am really enjoying riding the TXT 280. Currently I am feeling that the normal Dellorto PHBH 26 BS carburetor cannot produce enough power to clear some obstacles. So I'am thinking about replacing the carburetor into a Keihin PWK 28. Could you please let me know the merits of Keihin, comparing with Dellorto? I'm looking forward to listening from you. Thank you in advance for your kind reply. Your sincerely,

Steve

Steve,

I think the 28mm Keihin will be just about perfect for your needs. It produces strong, clean power and is fairly easy to tune. The Keihin is a much more sophisticated carb with more advanced features. I have had, for several years, a 28mm Keihin on my 96' JTR370 and really like it. It compensates for a wide variety of weather changes like altitude and temperature with just a change in needle adjustment. Jim Snell of Rising Sun Imports (on the Gas-Gas webpage) has all the necessary parts to convert your bike over to the Keihin. I think you will find the expense well worth it. In my opinion, changing over to the 28mm Keihin is one of the best modifications you can do for the TXT280. Best of luck to you and please contact me if I can be of further assistance. From what I've seen of the new 2002 Gas-Gas prototype motorcycles, there is the possibility the Keihin may come as standard equipment.

Steve,

I think the 28mm Keihin may possibly meet your needs, depending on your ability and mechanical know-how. There is one problem, and a substancial one at that, according to Jim Snell, who works with these types of conversions. It needs to be jetted absolutely correct to work. The 28mm works very well on the big-bore Gas-Gas, but may be a little too much venturi area for the smaller motor. Steve Colley runs a 28mm Keihin on his 280 and really likes it, but then again, he is Steve Colley. You may want to consider setting up the stock carb, which works extremely well when properly adjusted. Best of luck to you and please contact me if I can be of further assistance. From what I've seen of the new 2002 Gas-Gas prototype motorcycles, there is the possibility the Keihin may come as standard equipment. Jon
