Jon, Please help. I just purchased a new bike. I have some Elf xt2 oil and I would like to know what ratio you would recommend. I live in the U.S. so can you break the ratio that you give me into ounces per one gallon of gas? Thank you Jon, Dave. Dave, Premix ratios can be a little confusing, but here's how to figure them out. A gallon of gas (US Gallon) contains 128 ounces, so what you do is to divide the first number of the ratio you want into 128 to get how many ounces to add per gallon of gas. Example: 70:1 ratio equals 128 divided by 70 which equals 1.8 ounces per gallon of gas 80:1 ratio=128 divided by 80=1.6 oz per gallon 90:1 ratio=128 divided by 90=1.4 oz per gallon I run my bike at 80:1 premix ratio so I put a little over one and a half ounces of oil per gallon of gas. Jon NOTE: With the metric system in Canada, it's quite easy as well. For 80:1, the magic number is 12.5 ml's per litre. Using Jon's accurate formula, 1000 (1 litre in ml's) divided by 80 equals 12.5. For other ratios, adjust accordingly, as per the formula. This means 12.5 ml's per litre, or 50 per 4 litres, 100 per 8 litres and 125 per 10 litres. You can also put a predetermined amount of gas in a can first, and then use the formula to add the oil later. Doug |
