Hi,

Thanks for making this page on Gas Gas maintenance. I have purchased a 93 Gas Gas 250 and I have a few questions. What spark plug do you recommend for my bike.(in the spark plug page I heard you say you were a platinum fan which platinum plug should I, run if any) I read the recommended oil for the trany, but wouldn't it function better on a motorcycle tarny fluid (i.e. ELF trany fluid).

Thank you for your time,

JAKE

Jake,

I like the NGK BP5EV in my 96' 370. I'm going to try the Bosch equivilant and see if there is any big difference. A lot of riders I talk with swear by the Bosch. I run the ELF 4-stroke tranny fluid and it works well but I think I'll go to a lighter fluid like the 5W-30 for the colder weather around here. I've also used straight ATF Dextron with good results. ATF has good shear strength, is made for a wet clutch environment and has anti-foaming additives. GM has used it for many years in their truck standard trannys. I've used it in the race team MX bikes for almost 20 years now with no problems. The main thing with trans fluid is to keep it clean and fresh. Additives break down over time and use.
