Hi, Jon

I have a 93 gas gas 250. The paint on most of the tank had come off before I bought the bike and looks real bad. Is there some kind of paint that you know of that is safe for plastic gas tanks. The 93 bikes came with a painted tanks stock so their must be.

THANKS, JAKE.

Jake,

I'm not aware of factory paint available. What I've done in the past when repainting bikes is to consult with a good auto body shop/paint shop. Explain what you want to do and let them see the material to be painted. You may want to change the color to have a one-of-a-kind bike. Your Gas-Gas dealer can probably get you some Gas-Gas decals to finish it off nicely. As for the gas tank itself, some can't be painted very successfully as the plastic is permeable and 'breathes" off the gasoline "high end" solvents through the surface and causes bubbles to form (the reason why decals won't stick to plastic gas cans for long), although I've had good luck with Acerbis manufactured tanks being repainted. Fenders and panels are no problem. The later G-G models have a seperate cover over the tank itself and painting is not a problem. Most auto painters have a wide array of sealers, primers and paints for plastic as a lot of the newer cars have outside plastic components, like soft bumpers that require a highly flexible paint that adheres to compound curves, which makes it good for flexible rear fenders. A lot of the new paints are bulletproof but require a lot of skill to prep, mix and apply so you might want to opt for paying the painter to do the job.
