Subject: '94 JT250 reed petals.

The reed petals are slightly bent and burnt. They do not shut tightly. (0.5mm) open will this make much of a difference to performance and if so can you recommend a good make.

Cheers David

David,

Replacing your reeds should make a substantial difference in performance. Anything more than about .015" gap (yours are about .020") from reed to cage sealing lip should be replaced. The reeds affect starting and low speed performance, which is critical in a Trials bike. The stock Gas-Gas reeds are very good as well as just about all the aftermarket types like Aktive or Boyesen. The Boyesen are true "dual-stage" reeds and are patented. I'm sure your Gas-Gas dealer can get you just about any type you need.
